Religious Education

Collective Worship

The school is a multi-cultural community which respects individual rights.  One of our values is enlightenment and, as such, our RE curriculum ensures that all pupils are given a broad view of different religions.  The course is supplemented by visits to a whole range of religious buildings, and various festivals are celebrated in assemblies and class.

We promote mutual support among members of the school community and a range of moral and ethical messages.  We sing together in assemblies and celebrate each others’ success, while reflecting on key messages at the end.

However, we do not ask children to engage in acts of worship, as we do not feel it appropriate to impose a doctrine or belief on such a diverse range of individuals.

Religious Education Lessons

It is also the parents’ right to withdraw their child from Religious Education if they wish.  We believe that there is nothing in our teaching which is incompatible with anyone’s personal beliefs and would urge you not to exercise this right.  However, should you wish to do so, you should contact your Phase Lead and make an informed decision.
